About

About FAST-NUCES

The National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences — popularly known as FAST or FAST-NUCES — was chartered in 2000 and has grown into Pakistan’s most prominent Computer Science university, with six campuses spread across Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, Chiniot-Faisalabad and Multan.

FAST runs 30+ undergraduate and graduate programs in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, Electrical Engineering, Data Science, Business Administration, Accounting & Finance and Mathematics. The university holds the HEC W-Category (highest) ranking in the Computer Science discipline and ranks consistently among Pakistan’s top engineering universities on the HEC general-university rankings.

Each campus operates a common admission cycle — a unified FAST NU entry test, a common merit formula (50% test + 40% HSSC + 10% SSC), and a unified application portal at nu.edu.pk/admissions. Over 35,000 applicants compete every year for approximately 6,000 undergraduate seats, making FAST one of the most competitive private-sector university admissions in Pakistan.

Test Pattern

FAST Entry Test Pattern & Negative Marking

The FAST NU entry test is a computer-based 2-hour test with four sections, each individually timed. Once a section’s timer ends (or you submit it), you cannot return to it.

SectionWeightTopics
Advanced Mathematics50%FSc Part-I & II: Matrices, Algebra, Trigonometry, Permutations, Probability, Analytic Geometry, Calculus
Basic Math / Quantitative20%Arithmetic, Algebra basics, Percentages, Profit/Loss, Word problems
IQ & Analytical Reasoning20%Number series, Letter series, Blood relations, Coding-decoding, Directional reasoning, Analogies
English10%Grammar, Sentence correction, Synonyms / Antonyms, Short comprehension passages

Negative Marking & Calculator Policy

+1 mark for each correct answer and −0.25 marks for each wrong answer. Blank (unattempted) questions do not carry a penalty. Calculators are NOT allowed in the FAST NU entry test — practise mental math, especially for the Advanced Math and Basic Math sections.

Test-day Rules

  • Report 45–60 minutes before your slot with a printed roll number slip and original CNIC / B-form.
  • Each section has its own timer — you can’t go back once the section ends.
  • No calculator, phone, smart watch, notes or scratch paper permitted; rough sheets are provided inside the centre.
  • Result is emailed / published on the portal within a few days of the test.

Merit Formula

FAST Merit List Criteria — 50 / 40 / 10

FAST-NUCES uses a transparent weighted formula for merit:

FAST Aggregate % = (NU Test % × 0.50) + (HSSC % × 0.40) + (SSC % × 0.10)

Example: A candidate with 70% FAST entry test, 85% in FSc Part-I, and 90% in Matric gets:
= (70 × 0.50) + (85 × 0.40) + (90 × 0.10) = 35 + 34 + 9 = 78% aggregate — competitive for most BS programs.

  • 50% weight → FAST NU Entry Test score
  • 40% weight → HSSC / FSc (Part-I, or latest available result)
  • 10% weight → SSC / Matric
  • SAT-I accepted as alternative to NU entry test, subject to cut-off notified each cycle.
  • Merit lists are campus-wise and program-wise; top-ranked programs (BSCS at Islamabad / Lahore) typically close above 75–80% aggregate.
