What Is the One Paper Exam? — Complete Guide
The One Paper exam is the most widely used screening test format in Pakistan’s public service recruitment. It is conducted by FPSC, PPSC, SPSC, KPPSC, BPSC and AJKPSC for a huge range of posts from BPS-14 junior clerks up to BPS-17 Assistant Director, Tehsildar, Sub-Inspector and Lecturer.
The paper consists of 100 MCQs carrying 100 marks with a time limit of 90 minutes. Candidates are tested across 10 core subjects — all in a single paper — and most commissions apply 0.25 marks negative marking per wrong answer. Mastering One Paper MCQs is the first and most critical step toward securing a government job in Pakistan.
The 10 subjects tested in the One Paper format are General Knowledge, Current Affairs, Pakistan Studies, Islamic Studies, Everyday Science, Computer Science, English, Mathematics, Urdu & Geography. The exact marks distribution varies between commissions and posts — English, Current Affairs and Pakistan Studies typically carry the highest weightage (15–20 marks each), while other subjects range between 5–15 marks.
At QuizWing we’ve organised 65,000+ One Paper MCQs into subject-wise and topic-wise collections so you can prepare systematically. Official syllabi are published by FPSC, PPSC, SPSC, KPPSC and NTS. Cross-check the latest advertisement for subject weightages specific to your post.
Subject-wise Marks Distribution (Approximate)
Based on past-paper analysis of FPSC, PPSC, SPSC and KPPSC — no commission publishes a fixed subject-wise breakdown, so always check the latest notification for your post.

Passing threshold: FPSC requires a minimum of 40% per paper and 50% overall. PPSC follows the same rule in most cases. Negative marking is 0.25 marks per wrong answer at both FPSC and PPSC — leave a question blank if you can’t eliminate at least two options.
