What is MDCAT? — Full Form, Purpose & Overview
MDCAT stands for Medical and Dental College Admission Test. It is the mandatory national entrance test for MBBS and BDS admission in all medical and dental colleges (public + private) across Pakistan. Conducted under the authority of PMDC (Pakistan Medical & Dental Council), the MDCAT is held once a year nationally on a single paper across 20+ cities.
Who conducts MDCAT?
MDCAT is conducted by PMDC — Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (the regulator rebranded from PMC, which was itself the successor to the old PMDC). Province-wise execution partners are UHS (Punjab), DUHS/JSMU (Sindh), KMU (KPK) and BUMHS (Balochistan). NUMS (National University of Medical Sciences) conducts a separate entry test for federal / military medical colleges including Army Medical College (AMC).
Key facts at a glance
- Programs covered: MBBS, BDS, allied health sciences at government & private medical colleges.
- Frequency: Once annually, same day nationally.
- Mode: Computer-Based Test (CBT) at designated centres.
- Result validity: One year — candidates not admitted in the same cycle must re-appear.
- Official portal: pmdc.pk · Fee bank: BOP Bank.
- Language: English only.
MDCAT 2026 Important Dates — Registration, Test & Result
Full step-by-step schedule from registration to admissions. Verify each date on pmdc.pk.
Historical reference: MDCAT date 2024 was Sep 22, 2024 · MDCAT date 2023 was Sep 10, 2023 · MDCAT date 2022 was Oct 30, 2022. PMDC consistently schedules MDCAT in Sep–Oct every year. Always verify the latest schedule at pmdc.pk.
Who Can Apply for MDCAT 2026?
Academic requirements
- FSc Pre-Medical (Biology, Chemistry, Physics) with minimum 60% marks — PMDC historical threshold.
- 2026 update: PMDC has indicated the minimum may rise to 65% for the Fall 2026 intake. Both thresholds circulate — always confirm the exact cut-off in the official PMDC registration guidelines.
- A-Level students: minimum 3 subjects (Biology, Chemistry, Physics/Maths) with IBCC equivalence certificate.
- Result-awaiting students may also apply using Part-I / roll numbers at registration time.
- Foreign / dual nationals may appear for open-merit seats subject to PMDC rules.
Age
- No upper age limit for MDCAT as per the latest PMDC policy.
- Must have completed FSc or be awaiting results at the time of registration.
Domicile rule — most students miss this
Critical: Candidates must register and appear in the province of their domicile. Matric, FSc and domicile must be from the same province. You cannot pick a test city outside your home province (except in PMDC-approved special cases).
Documents required for registration
- CNIC / B-Form (smart card not mandatory).
- FSc / Part-I result card or roll-number slip.
- Matric certificate.
- Domicile certificate.
- Passport-size photograph.
- BOP Bank challan (www.bop.com.pk).
- Active email address & mobile number.

Your verdict will appear here.
The Three Official MDCAT Formulas
Formula 1 — PMDC / UHS
10 / 40 / 50Matric total = 1100 · FSc total = 1100 · MDCAT total = 180. Used by Punjab public sector (UHS-affiliated colleges: KEMU, AIMC, NMU, FJMU etc.).
Formula 2 — NUMS
10 / 40 / 50NUMS conducts its own entry test separately from PMDC MDCAT. Used by AMC, CMH colleges, Navy medical colleges. Verify NUMS total marks at nums.edu.pk.
Formula 3 — KMU (KPK)
ProvincialKMU uses the KPK provincial formula which varies year-on-year. Always verify at kmu.edu.pk for the current-cycle weightage.
Worked example (PMDC)
Matric 1000/1100 = 90.9% × 0.10 = 9.09
FSc 1020/1100 = 92.7% × 0.40 = 37.09
MDCAT 160/180 = 88.9% × 0.50 = 44.44
Aggregate = 90.62% aggregate — excellent for top public medical colleges.

UHS (University of Health Sciences Lahore) publishes the Punjab MDCAT result at uhs.edu.pk — this covers all Punjab government medical colleges.
NUMS conducts its own entry test — result at nums.edu.pk. Used for AMC and federal/military medical colleges.
KMU (Khyber Medical University) publishes the KPK MDCAT result at kmu.edu.pk.
DUHS (Dow University, Sindh) · JSMU (Jinnah Sindh Medical University) · BUMHS (Bolan University, Balochistan) · SZABMU (federal, Islamabad). Each publishes its own province/federal-level result on its own portal.
Following paper-leak controversies in Sindh 2023–2025, PMDC has at times directed reconducting of the Sindh MDCAT. Always watch pmdc.pk and Sindh Health Department notices — reconduct is announced within weeks of the original test if triggered.
Historical top scorers reach 175–180 / 180. The top 0.1% of candidates consistently hit 170+/180. Aim for 160+ for SEECS-tier colleges (KEMU, Dow, AMC).
Aggregate & Merit
PMDC/UHS formula: Aggregate % = (Matric % × 0.10) + (FSc % × 0.40) + (MDCAT % × 0.50). NUMS and KMU use their own weightages — see the calculator section above.
Use our full MDCAT aggregate calculator with forward + reverse merit logic, or the mini calculator above for a quick computation.
150+/180 is competitive for most public colleges. 160+/180 is required for top-tier colleges (KEMU, AIMC, Dow, AMC). Below 99/180 you don’t clear MBBS eligibility (55% pass mark).
55% MDCAT score is the eligibility minimum (99/180). For admission, closing merits typically range 75–91% aggregate depending on the college. See the closing merits table above.
Each university (UHS, DUHS, KMU, BUMHS, NUMS) publishes its own merit list — ranking candidates by aggregate. Merit lists are announced 4–6 weeks after the result.
