NUST Entry Test 2026 — Apply Online, Dates, Syllabus, Past Papers & MCQs

The NUST Entry Test — known officially as NET — is the computer-based admission test conducted by the National University of Sciences & Technology (NUST) Islamabad for all undergraduate admissions to its Engineering, Computer Science, Biotechnology, Business, Social Sciences and BS Sciences programs.

Unlike most Pakistani entry tests that happen once a year, NUST runs four NET series every year — NET-1 (November / December), NET-2 (January), NET-3 (March / April) and NET-4 (June / July) — and uses the best score from any of your attempts for merit calculation. This multi-attempt structure gives NUST aspirants a significant advantage: you can retake the test to improve your chances.

Over 50,000 candidates apply every admission cycle for roughly 3,500 undergraduate seats across NUST’s schools in H-12 Islamabad (main campus), Rawalpindi (MCS, CEME), Karachi (PNEC), Risalpur (MCE, CAE) and Quetta (Balochistan Campus). NUST is consistently ranked as the #1 university in Pakistan and in the top 400 globally by QS World University Rankings — making NET one of the most competitive undergraduate entry tests in Pakistan.

Academic Qualification

• At least 60% marks in FSc Part-I / HSSC Part-I (or equivalent). Many competitive programs at SEECS and SMME effectively require 80%+ for merit.
• Subject combination must match the chosen degree:
  • BE / BS Engineering: FSc Pre-Engineering (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics).
  • BS Computer Science / SE: FSc Pre-Engineering or ICS (with Mathematics).
  • BS Biotechnology / Biosciences: FSc Pre-Medical (Physics, Chemistry, Biology).
  • BS Humanities / BBA / Mass Comm: HSSC in any group, A-Level or ICom.
• A-Level students: must have IBCC equivalence; minimum 3 A-Level principal subjects relevant to the program.
• International students: high school diploma or IB certified by the Inter Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC).
• SAT-I / SAT-II scores can be used as an alternative to NET for certain programs — see the NUST prospectus for program-wise SAT requirements.

Other Requirements

• Must appear in the NUST Entry Test (NET) or submit an equivalent SAT score for considered programs.
• Must meet the medical fitness standards required by NUST at the time of admission.
• No age bar for undergraduate admissions at NUST.
• Separate application form must be submitted at ugadmissions.nust.edu.pk with 15 program preferences.

NUST NET 2026 is held in multiple cities across Pakistan. Computer-based tests (CBT) are conducted at the NUST H-12 Islamabad campus and major city campuses, while paper-based tests are arranged for cities without a CBT facility.

NET-4 Test Cities & Mode

• Islamabad (H-12 main campus): Computer-based — 24 June 2026 onwards (multiple sessions daily).
• Karachi: Paper-based — 19–21 July 2026 at the NUST PNEC campus / approved exam hall.
• Gilgit: Paper-based — 21–22 July 2026.
• Quetta (Balochistan Campus): Computer-based — 27–28 July 2026.
• Other major cities (Lahore, Peshawar, Multan, Sukkur, Hyderabad, Abbottabad): CBT / paper-based slots as announced on the portal.

Admit card: issued online 3–5 days before your scheduled test date. Log in to ugadmissions.nust.edu.pk, download and print the admit card. Take it along with your original CNIC or B-form to the test centre.

Session timing: each CBT session is approximately 3 hours. Candidates must report 60 minutes before their slot for biometric verification.

The NUST NET follows a consistent structure across all series:

Total questions: 200 MCQs · Duration: 180 minutes (3 hours) · Marking: +1 for each correct answer, NO negative marking.

Test-day Rules

• Report 60 minutes before your slot for biometric verification.
• Bring printed admit card + original CNIC / B-form.
• Rough work paper is provided and collected at the end of the test.
• No breaks during the 3-hour session — use the restroom before checking in.
• Result is displayed on-screen at the end of the CBT session.

NUST uses a transparent weighted formula for merit:

• 75% weight → NET entry test score (best of all attempts)
• 15% weight → HSSC / FSc Part-I (or Part-I + Part-II)
• 10% weight → SSC / Matric
• Best NET score across NET-1, NET-2, NET-3 and NET-4 is used automatically — no need to specify.
• SAT-I / SAT-II: Accepted in lieu of NET for many BS programs with minimum required scores set in the prospectus.

• QS World University Rankings — placed in the 350–400 band globally in recent editions, the highest for any Pakistani university.
• QS Asia University Rankings — consistently in the top 100 in Asia.
• Times Higher Education (THE) — ranked in the top 500–600 band globally and among the top Asian universities for engineering, technology and computer science.
• HEC Pakistan Ranking — #1 among general-category universities in Pakistan.

NUST is particularly strong in Engineering & Technology, Computer Science, Natural Sciences and Business. Its research output, industry linkages, and international collaborations (with Cambridge, Stanford, MIT, and TU Berlin) continue to drive the ranking upward year-on-year.

For NUST graduate admission 2026 (MS, PhD, MPhil), a separate entry test called GNET is used. GNET registration and application are done at gnet.nust.edu.pk.

• MS / MPhil / PhD admissions — both NUST Admission Spring 2026 and Fall 2026 cycles.
• Spring intake: applications typically open October / November, tests in December, classes start in February.
• Fall intake: applications open April / May, tests in June, classes start in September.
• Alternative tests accepted: GAT General / Subject by NTS for select programs.
• GMAT / GRE may be used for NBS (Business) graduate programs.
