What is the NUST Entry Test (NET)?
The NUST Entry Test — known officially as NET — is the computer-based admission test conducted by the National University of Sciences & Technology (NUST) Islamabad for all undergraduate admissions to its Engineering, Computer Science, Biotechnology, Business, Social Sciences and BS Sciences programs.
Unlike most Pakistani entry tests that happen once a year, NUST runs four NET series every year — NET-1 (November / December), NET-2 (January), NET-3 (March / April) and NET-4 (June / July) — and uses the best score from any of your attempts for merit calculation. This multi-attempt structure gives NUST aspirants a significant advantage: you can retake the test to improve your chances.
Over 50,000 candidates apply every admission cycle for roughly 3,500 undergraduate seats across NUST’s schools in H-12 Islamabad (main campus), Rawalpindi (MCS, CEME), Karachi (PNEC), Risalpur (MCE, CAE) and Quetta (Balochistan Campus). NUST is consistently ranked as the #1 university in Pakistan and in the top 400 globally by QS World University Rankings — making NET one of the most competitive undergraduate entry tests in Pakistan.
Is there a NUST Lahore campus?
No — NUST does not have a campus in Lahore. The main campus is in Sector H-12, Islamabad. All undergraduate admissions are processed through the main Islamabad campus via ugadmissions.nust.edu.pk. Students from Lahore apply online and travel to Islamabad or the nearest NET test city for the entry test.
NUST Entry Test Date 2026 — Fall Admission Schedule
For NUST University admission 2026, Fall 2026 cycle runs through four NET series. NET-4 is the final round — lock in your best score.
Historical NUST Entry Test Dates (reference)
NUST Entry Test date 2024 — NET series 1–4 ran Nov 2023 to July 2024.
NUST Entry Test date 2022 — NET series covered Dec 2021 to August 2022, moving fully online post-COVID.
Past patterns: NET-1 in Nov/Dec, NET-2 in Jan, NET-3 in Mar/Apr, NET-4 in June/July every admission cycle — giving applicants 4 chances each year.
Always verify the latest schedule at ugadmissions.nust.edu.pk — NET-3 dates were postponed in April 2026 and a revised schedule was issued.

NUST Merit Formula — 75 / 15 / 10
NUST uses a transparent weighted formula for merit:
NUST Aggregate % = (NET % × 0.75) + (HSSC % × 0.15) + (SSC % × 0.10)
Example: A candidate with 180/200 in NET (90%), 900/1100 in HSSC Part-I (81.8%) and 970/1100 in SSC (88.2%) gets:
= (90 × 0.75) + (81.8 × 0.15) + (88.2 × 0.10) = 67.5 + 12.27 + 8.82 = 88.59% aggregate — a strong merit position for SEECS / SMME.
- 75% weight → NET entry test score (best of all attempts)
- 15% weight → HSSC / FSc Part-I (or Part-I + Part-II)
- 10% weight → SSC / Matric
- Best NET score across NET-1, NET-2, NET-3 and NET-4 is used automatically — no need to specify.
- SAT-I / SAT-II: Accepted in lieu of NET for many BS programs with minimum required scores set in the prospectus.

How to Prepare for NUST Entry Test
Complete strategy covering past papers, syllabus mastery, best books, and test-day tactics.
Start with NUST-specific Past Papers
NUST reuses question patterns heavily. Solving NUST past papers 2022, 2021 and older years is non-negotiable. Download the past papers PDF with answers and solve at least 5 full papers under timed 3-hour conditions.
Master the FSc Syllabus
All questions come from FSc Part-I & Part-II (FBISE / Punjab / Federal Board textbooks). Cross-map your textbook chapters to the NUST syllabus and mark chapters done.
Best NUST Preparation Books
Widely used NUST entry test books and preparation books PDF:
- NUST NET Entry Test Guide by Dogar Brothers.
- KIPS NUST NET Preparation Book (chapter-wise MCQs with solutions).
- Stars Academy NUST NET Guide (past papers + model tests).
- NUST Past Papers Compilation — free PDF on QuizWing.
- NBF FSc Physics & Maths for concept revision.
Practise Intelligence Section Daily
Many students lose the 40 Intelligence marks due to lack of practice. Daily 30-minute sessions on number series, blood relations, coding-decoding and direction sense will raise your raw NET score by 15–25 marks.
Attempt Timed Mock Tests
Take the free NUST NET mock test on QuizWing under real exam conditions (200 MCQs, 3 hours, on-screen calculator). Aim for at least 5 full-length mocks in the final month.
No Negative Marking — Attempt Everything
Unlike ECAT and MDCAT, NUST NET has no negative marking. Even if you are unsure, attempt every single question. Blind guessing on 10% of questions can add 10–15 marks to your NET score.
Practise with the On-screen Calculator
Since personal calculators are not allowed, practise Maths and Physics problems on a laptop calculator or online scientific calculator — not a handheld — so you are comfortable with the CBT interface on test day.
NUST Graduate Admission 2026 & GNET
For NUST graduate admission 2026 (MS, PhD, MPhil), a separate entry test called GNET is used. GNET registration and application are done at gnet.nust.edu.pk.
