Introduction

What Is an Entry Test in Pakistan? — Complete Guide

An entry test is a standardised MCQ-based screening exam used by Pakistani universities and the armed forces to shortlist candidates for admission. After Matric and FSc, the entry test is the single biggest gatekeeper for medical, engineering, computing and forces career paths.

Pakistan has six major entry test pathways: MDCAT for medical & dental, ECAT for engineering (UET Punjab), NUST NET for NUST Islamabad, FAST NU Entry Test for FAST-NUCES campuses, NTS GAT/NAT for graduate programs and HEC scholarships, and the ISSB 4-day evaluation for Pakistan Army, Navy and Air Force commissioned officers.

The format is similar across most tests — multiple-choice questions across Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English, Biology and Analytical Reasoning — but the weightages, syllabus and merit aggregate formulas differ. That’s why this hub gives you a dedicated page per test, with the official syllabus, past papers, mock tests, aggregate calculator and topic-wise MCQs.

Official information is published by PMDC, UHS, UET Lahore, NUST, FAST-NUCES, NTS and Join Pak Army. Always cross-check the latest advertisement before you apply — schedules and weightages change every year.

Aggregate weightages (typical): MDCAT = Matric 10% + FSc 40% + MDCAT 50%. ECAT (UET) = Matric 17% + FSc 50% + ECAT 33%. NUST = NET 75% + FSc 15% + Matric 10%. Use the in-page calculators for instant accurate aggregate scores.

6-Step Strategy

How to Prepare for Any Entry Test in Pakistan

A proven roadmap that converts FSc study time into actual marks on test day.

Step 01

Pick Your Test (or Tests)

Decide between medical, engineering or forces. Most students apply for 2–3 tests in parallel (e.g. MDCAT + AKU, or ECAT + NUST + FAST) to maximise admission chances.

Step 02

Master the Official Syllabus

Download the official syllabus from PMDC, UET, NUST or FAST. Most entry tests are based directly on FSc Part I & II — don’t waste time on outside material.

Step 03

Practise Topic-Wise MCQs

Use QuizWing’s chapter-wise MCQs for Physics, Chemistry, Maths, Biology and English. Quality beats quantity — understand each concept before moving on.

Step 04

Solve Past Papers

Attempt at least 5 years of past papers for your target test. They reveal repeating topics, the difficulty curve and the actual exam pattern.

Step 05

Take Timed Mock Tests

Simulate the real exam — full length, full time, no breaks. Time management is what separates 80%+ scorers from the rest.

Step 06

Calculate Your Aggregate & Plan Choices

Use the QuizWing aggregate calculator to predict your merit. Apply strategically across multiple universities — don’t put all eggs in one basket.

Entry Test — Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Pakistan’s major university and forces entry tests.

An entry test is an MCQ-based screening exam used by Pakistani universities and the armed forces to shortlist candidates for admission. The most common are MDCAT (medical), ECAT (engineering), NUST NET, FAST NU Entry Test, NTS GAT/NAT for graduate programs and ISSB for armed forces commissions.

After FSc Pre-Medical you should prepare for MDCAT — it is mandatory for MBBS & BDS admission in all public and private medical & dental colleges in Pakistan. Some private universities like Aga Khan University (AKU) conduct their own additional tests.

The most important engineering entry tests are ECAT (UET Lahore, Taxila, Peshawar & provincial engineering universities), NUST NET (NUST Islamabad), GIKI Test, FAST NU Entry Test and HITEC. Most students apply for multiple tests to maximise admission chances.

Yes. MDCAT is mandatory for MBBS & BDS admission in all public and private medical & dental colleges across Pakistan. It is conducted province-wise — UHS in Punjab, KMU in KPK, DUHS in Sindh, BMA in Balochistan — under PMDC guidelines.

Aggregate combines Matric, FSc and entry test marks at different weightages. MDCAT: Matric 10% + FSc 40% + MDCAT 50%. ECAT (UET): Matric 17% + FSc 50% + ECAT 33%. NUST: NET 75% + FSc 15% + Matric 10%. Use the QuizWing calculators on each test page for instant accurate results.

MDCAT 2026 is typically held in September across all provinces under PMDC. ECAT 2026 is conducted by UET Lahore in August/September. Exact dates are announced by PMDC, UHS, KMU and UET on their official websites — always verify the latest notification.

Yes. QuizWing provides free past papers, mock tests, topic-wise MCQs and PDF downloads for MDCAT, ECAT, NUST NET, FAST, NTS GAT/NAT and ISSB. No signup required for the first downloads.

ISSB (Inter-Services Selection Board) is a 4-day evaluation conducted at Kohat, Gujranwala, Malir and Quetta to select candidates for officer commissions in Pakistan Army, Navy & Air Force. Candidates first clear an initial test/medical, then ISSB — Intelligence Tests, WAT, GTO Tasks, Psychological Tests & Interview.

Yes — MDCAT, ECAT, NUST NET and FAST share large overlap in Physics, Chemistry, Math, English and IQ. Smart students master core FSc concepts thoroughly and then practise test-specific MCQs for each exam pattern. QuizWing’s topic-wise structure makes parallel prep efficient.

It varies. MDCAT — no negative marking. ECAT (UET) — no negative marking. NUST NET — 0.25 per wrong MCQ. FAST — no negative marking. NTS GAT/NAT — 0.25 per wrong MCQ. Always read the latest test instructions from each official body before exam day.
