Six Kalimas & Doors of Jannah — Frequently Asked Questions

There are six Kalimas widely taught in South Asian Islamic education: (1) Tayyaba — The Pure Word, (2) Shahadat — Testimony, (3) Tamjeed — Glorification, (4) Tauheed — Oneness, (5) Astaghfar — Seeking Forgiveness, (6) Radde Kufr — Rejecting Disbelief.
Kalima Tayyaba means “The Pure Word.” It is: La ilaha illallah Muhammadur Rasulullah — “There is no god but Allah; Muhammad (PBUH) is the Messenger of Allah.” It has 7 words and 48 letters in Arabic. Its recitation is called Tahleel.
The first part (La ilaha illallah) appears in Surah Al-Imran, verse 18 (3:18). The second part (Muhammadur Rasulullah) appears in Surah Al-Fath, verse 29 (48:29).
Jannah (Paradise) has eight gates. Each gate is reserved for those who excelled in a particular form of worship, as established in Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim.
Baab Ar-Rayyaan (باب الريان) is the 4th door of Jannah, exclusively reserved for those who observed fasting — especially in Ramadan. Rayyaan means “well-watered” or “lush” — a reward for bearing thirst during fasts. It is the most frequently tested door name in PPSC, FPSC, and CSS exams.
Jahannam (Hell) has seven gates, as mentioned in Surah Al-Hijr (15:44): “It has seven gates; for each gate is of them a portion designated.”
